WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Kent State soccer team (2-2-1) fell for the first time on the road this season, dropping Friday night's contest to UNCW (4-1-0), 4-1.
The Seahawks jumped on the scoreboard just four minutes into the contest, but Kent State was able to strike and tied the game in the 31st minute on sophomore Maddie Holmes' second goal of the season. Sophomore Vital Kats served Holmes a pass on a corner kick to find the back of the net.
The second period was all UNCW, as the Seahawks struck for three scores to blow the game open. It was a balanced offensive attack with four different players scoring goals.
Despite leading in shots, 7-6, Kent State allowed four of the shots to score. The Flashes also led in corner kicks (9-4) and fouls (14-13).
The Golden Flashes finish up the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 2nd with an 11 a.m. kickoff against Fairleigh Dickinson.
