
Kent State Drops Golden Flashes Classic Opener to Purdue Fort Wayne

KENT, Ohio – Kent State fell to Purdue Fort Wayne in its opening match of the Golden Flashes Classic on Friday evening at the M.A.C. Center, 3-0 (10-25, 6-25, 16-25).
The Golden Flashes (3-2) were led by freshman Kathryn Ellison, who totaled seven kills and 10 digs. Freshman Erin Gardner matched her for the team lead with 10 digs.
Kent State posted just 16 kills to 21 attack errors (-.056 hitting percentage), while the Mastodons had 42 kills to nine attack errors (.351 hitting percentage).
The Flashes ended the night with their most competitive set of the match. Ellison contributed three kills as part of a run that trimmed a seven-point deficit in the third set to 18-16. However, the Mastodons were able to side out and score seven straight to seal the victory.
Kent State is back in action Saturday at the M.A.C. Center with two more matches to conclude the 2018 Golden Flashes Classic. The Flashes will play Morgan State at 12 p.m. and Niagara at 7 p.m. Both contests will be available on ESPN+.
