KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University field hockey team faced off against No. 12 Northwestern at Murphy-Mellis Field Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Wildcats 4-2. Junior Laila Richter and sophomore Clara Rodriguez Setó each tallied goals for the Flashes.

In an action-packed first period, the Flashes took an early 1-0 lead over the Wildcats in the 6^thminute when Richter scored her first goal of the season on a penalty corner inserted by Setó and stopped by freshman Helena Cambra Soler. The Wildcats responded minutes later to tie the game back up at 1-1, scoring on a penalty corner to the top of the shooting circle.

In the 15^thminute, the Golden Flashes went ahead, 2-1 on the goal from Setó, her fourth of the season. Sophomore Emma Bressler recorded the assist on the play. With three minutes remaining in the first period, the 'Cats knotted the game back up at 2-2 as junior Saar de Breij carried the ball inside the shooting circle and scored unassisted.

In the second period, Northwestern scored the decisive goal on a shot that was deflected off goalkeeper Mary Crumlish's pads back to red-shirt sophomore Lakin Barry, who skipped it into the net. The Wildcats extended the lead in the 46^thminute, scoring on a penalty corner. The score remained 4-2 through regulation.

The Flashes played a tough defensive game against the ranked Wildcats, holding Northwestern to just 9 shots on the day. Kent State took 7 shots on the day, and were led offensively by Richter and senior Courtney Weise who each attempted 2 shots.
