Kent State Falls in Five at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Kent State dropped its first five-setter of the season on Tuesday night in a road match at Robert Morris, 3-2 (25-14, 25-16, 22-25, 15-25, 12-15).
The Golden Flashes (5-3) dominated the first two sets of the night to take a 2-0 lead into intermission behind 28 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. However, Kent State only recorded 22 kills and a .033 hitting percentage over the final three sets.
Freshman Kathryn Ellison led the Flashes with 14 kills and 15 digs for her third double-double of the season to go with three blocks and two aces. Senior Darby Connors added eight kills. Redshirt freshman Alex Haffner recorded a team-high 20 assists while sharing setting duties with sophomore Natalie Tagala, who had 19 assists.
Kent State had eight players contribute towards 10 team blocks in the match. Sophomore Ezri Edwards and junior Myla King led the way with four blocks each.
Senior Sam Jones and freshman Erin Gardner joined Ellison with double-digit digs, totaling 12 and 11, respectively.
Kent State returns to the Keystone State this weekend for three matches at the La Salle Invitational. The Flashes play Rider at 4:30 p.m. Friday and then are back in action Saturday against La Salle at 10:30 a.m. and NJIT at 5 p.m.
