KENT, Ohio – Yasmine Hall's two-goal effort lifted Kent State (3-3-1) to a 3-2 Senior Night win over Morehead State (1-6) on Friday night at Dix Stadium. Hall netted the first two goals of her Golden Flashes career and scored the game winner in the 82nd minute.
"I thought the first half was excellent and that was one of the best periods we have seen. We started off really well with high intensity, but we saw a drop off in the second half which we can't allow in the future," said Kent State head coach Rob Marinaro. "I'm really proud of the way we recovered and came back to get the win. Hall has been getting some opportunities and found some confidence and had a great first goal and the second one got a deflection."
Sophomore Vital Kats scored the first goal of the match 24 minutes in on a penalty kick for her second score of the season. Hall then scored her first career goal in a Kent State uniform in the 29th minute from 20 yards out on the right side on a pass from Kats.
"This week I was focusing a lot on my shooting and spent time working with the coaches," said Hall. "I think that gave me the confidence to finish shots today."
Morehead State's Dani Wilson then scored two answered goals in the 57th and 65th minutes to tie the match at two. Hall then scored the game winner by ricocheting a shot into the net from the left side. Kats also recorded her second assist of the evening.
Kent State had a large advantage in shots (21-7) and also led in corner kicks (6-2).
Senior goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (1-0-0) made her first appearance of the season in net and made one save.
Prior to the match Kent State honored its five-member senior class of McDonald, Miranda Lambert, Paige Culver, Dominique DiNardo and Cassandra Sauter.
"Its a tremendous senior class, they've won so many games for us and multiple championships," commented Marinaro. "To see them celebrate it is sort of bittersweet, its nice to celebrate what they given us. They are a fantastic group of young ladies."
The Golden Flashes return to action next week on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. when they travel to the Empire State to battle Syracuse.
Kent State is now 3-0 all-time against Morehead State.
