Track and Field Set for Competition at Wolverine Invitational

The Kent State indoor track and field team will begin competition for the 2018-19 season this weekend when the Golden Flashes will travel to the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 12. Athletes from nine different schools are registered to compete at the one-day competition.
Field events begin Saturday with the men's long jump, pole vault, and weight throw and the women' high jump, long jump, and shot put at 11:00 a.m. Running events are also scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
The Golden Flashes' women were selected to finish third and the men were picked to tie for fourth at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championships, which Kent State will host at the Kent State Field House from February 22-23, in the preseason coaches' poll.
Kent State has 47 total athletes slated to compete at the invitational. The women's team is headlined by Mi'Angel Daniels (hurdles), Alyssa Matheny (high jump), and Maria Horrigan (pole vault), while Christian Champen (pole vault), Jake Wickey (weight throw) is the top returning men set to make their season debut.
