Flashes Stay Perfect in MAC Play After Win Over Miami

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University (8-5, 3-0) field hockey team won its fourth-straight game as the Flashes claimed first place in the MAC with a 3-2 victory over Miami.
Despite the Flashes being outshot by the RedHawks (7-6, 2-1) 21-6, Kent State was able to score on three of their five shots on goal.
The RedHawks were able to get on the board first in the 24th-minute of play on a direct penalty corner feed. Just one minute later, Kent State tied the game as Hailie Balachick scored for the third time this season off a penalty corner.
The Flashes broke the tie in the 35th-minute on their first shot of the third quarter. Clara Rodriguez Seto scored for the eighth time this season as she fired a loose ball off the goalie into the open net.
Kent State increased its lead in the fourth period as Claudia Ortiz assisted on a goal from Sydney Carr. This was Carr's second goal of the season.
The RedHawks capitalized on goal in the final minute of play, but time ran out as Kent State claimed the 3-2 victory.
Miami edged the Flashes in shots on goal 13-5 and penalty corners, 9-4. The duo of Azure Fernsler and Mary Crumlish combined for a total of 11 saves on the day.
Rodriguez Seto paced the Flashes with two shots and a goal.
The Flashes are back in action Friday, Oct. 18 as they make the trip to Mount Pleasant to face Central Michigan at 4 p.m.
