MOUNT PLEASANT, Ohio- The Kent State University field hockey team (9-5, 4-0 MAC) won its fifth-straight game and remains undefeated in MAC play after defeating Central Michigan, 3-2, on Friday afternoon.
The Flashes dominated the game and outshot the Chippewas 25-5 with Laila Richter and Maria Cambra Soler pacing Kent State with five shots each.
Although the first period remained scoreless, the Flashes got on the board first early in the second period as Hailie Balachick found the back of the net for the fourth time this season with an unassisted goal. Three minutes later, the Chippewas evened the score with a goal.
At the 33rd minute, Sydney Carr broke the tie with her third goal of the season and second-straight game scoring a goal. Carr's goal was assisted by Clara Rodriguez Seto, her fifth assist on the season.
The Chippewas answered back in the fourth period with a goal of their own, but Ashley Bonetz set up the game-winning goal off a penalty corner for Claudia Ortiz that secured the 3-2 victory.
Kent State's defense only allowed five shots on target while Azure Fernsler recorded three saves. The Flashes placed 14 of their 25 shots on goal and earned 13 penalty corners.
Kent State returns to action Sunday, Oct. 20 as they travel to Northwestern to close out the road trip. Sunday's game will begin at noon.
