Kent State Vaults Into Lead at Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, P.R.- A superb second-round performance by three Flashes enabled the Kent State women's golf team to vault into the team lead at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Monday afternoon.
Junior Karoline Stormo fired a 1-under par 71 score for the second round that was highlighted by opening the round with four straight birdies. After a 36-hole total of 4-under, Stormo is in the hunt for stroke-play honors tied for first, with the closing 18 holes on tap for Tuesday.
Senior Michaela Finn and junior Pimnipa Panthong both shot even-par scores in the second round. Both golfers went 15 holes for par or better and birdied four times. Panthong is tied for 26th and has a 36 hole total of 3-over 147. Finn made a significant improvement in her second round as she shot a 7-over score in the opening round. Finn sits tied for 41st with a two-round total of 7-over.
The three's scores highlighted an even-par score of 288 for the team. The team total gave Kent State a five-shot advantage over Arkansas with a 36-hole total of 580 (292-288).
Freshman Thitapa Pakdeesettakul is tied for 17th with a 3-over 147 (74-73) score. The freshman bettered her first round score by one stroke and finished the day with five birdies.
Kory Nielsen is tied for 26th after a second round score of 3-over 75. Chloe Salort leads the individual pack and is tied for 11th after posting rounds of 70 and 76.
Kent State will play alongside Arkansas and Purdue for the final 18 holes tomorrow at 8 a.m. for a shotgun start.
