Kent State Rallies Past Green Bay for Historic Victory in WNIT First Round

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Kent State overcame a 13-point deficit late in the third period to take down host Green Bay, 64-59, in a WNIT first round matchup Thursday evening at the Kress Center. The victory is the Golden Flashes' first ever in WNIT action, and the first postseason tournament win since 1996.
Redshirt junior Megan Carter scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the final period to lead the comeback. Freshman Lindsey Thall buried three crucial three-pointers, as the duo combined to outscore the Phoenix, 19-16, over the final 10 minutes.
Kent State (20-12) had a season-low eight turnovers and did not allow any second-chance or fast break points.
Seniors Merissa Barber-Smith and Alexa Golden refused to allow this to be their final collegiate game. Barber-Smith grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and sank two clutch free throws with just over a minute remaining. Golden filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Freshman Asiah Dingle scored 15 points in her first college postseason contest. Dingle's steal and three-point play conversion in the closing seconds of the third quarter capped a 9-0 run heading into the final period.
Kent State will play at Butler in a WNIT second round contest on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
