
Kent State Meets Butler Saturday in WNIT Second Round Action

Following the first WNIT victory in program history on Thursday, Kent State will visit Butler for a second round game on Saturday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (20-12) closed on a 34-16 run to rally from a 13-point deficit late in their first round contest at Green Bay. Megan Carter scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the final period to lead the comeback. Lindsey Thall buried three crucial three-pointers, as the duo combined to outscore the Phoenix, 19-16, over the final 10 minutes. Asiah Dingle added 15 points in her college postseason contest.
Guard Megan Carter (16.2 ppg) has scored at least 11 points in all but four games this season. Freshman Asiah Dingle (12.9 ppg) has provided a scoring threat at the point guard position. Forward Lindsey Thall (10.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg) leads Kent State with 64 three- pointers to go with a MAC-best 52 blocks. Merissa Barber-Smith is the team's top rebounder at 7.8 per game and has 37 blocked shots. Guard Alexa Golden (7.5 ppg) leads the team in steals (2.8 spg) and is second in rebounding (5.5 rpg).
Kent State in the WNIT
• Kent State is making its fifth appearance in the WNIT and owns a 1-4 record.
• The Golden Flashes rallied from down 13 late in the third quarter to beat Green Bay on Thursday, 64-59.
• Overall, Flashes are 2-9 in postseason play with a first round victory over Texas A&M in the 1996 NCAA Tournament.
Scouting Butler
Butler (22-9) led by as many as 34 in an opening round 89-72 victory over Northeastern on Thursday. The Bulldogs trailed by six at the end of the first quarter but outscored the visiting Huskie 59-21 over the following 20 minutes of action.
Forward/center Tori Schickel (12.9 ppg, 8.90 rpg) was an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree. Guard Whitney Jennings averages a team-best 14.9 points per game and was recognized as All-BIG EAST honorable mention. Guard Michelle Weaver (7.3 ppg) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year after recording 3.5 steals per game. Guard Kristen Spolyar adds 12.9 points per game.
