Flashes Finish Fifth at Hootie At Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

AWENDAW, S.C.- The Kent State Golden Flashes men's golf team finished fifth among a field of 15 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday. In their final round, the Golden Flashes shot a 7-over 295 for a tournament total of 859 (-5).
This marks Kent State's fourth top-10 finish of the season. In the 15-team loaded field, the Flashes beat out five top-50 teams in the nation, including the No. 4-ranked Duke.
Individually, freshman Johnny Travale finished in sixth place at 6-under with rounds of 70,68, and 72. This marks a career-best finish for the freshman. Travale fired an even-par for his final round. The freshman finished the tournament with 13 birdies and was second in the tournament on par 4's at 5-under. Travale finished ahead of four of the top-50 ranked golfers in the nation, including two golfers ranked top-20.
The top performance of the day belonged to freshman Julien Paltrinieri who shot the team's lowest final round score of 2-under 70. Julien Paltrinieri went 16 holes for par or better with four birdies, two of which were back-to-back on holes 15 and 16. For the tournament, he finished tied for eighth at 4-under 212.
Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson finished tied for 29th at even-par 216. The senior carded a 4-over 76 score in his final round. Junior Chris Doody completed his final round with a 5-over 77 score and finished tied for 60th at 8-over 224.
Rounding out the Flashes lineup was senior Bjarki Petursson who tied for 69th at 11-over 227. Petursson carded an 8-over 80 score in the final round.
South Carolina earned the team crown at 22-under 842.
Kent State returns to action April 6-7 as the Flashes compete in the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas.
