
Stevens, Jr. Wins Historic Third Triple Jump Title in a Row at MAC Outdoor Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. – Kent State senior Craig Stevens, Jr. made history on Saturday by winning his third consecutive outdoor men's triple jump title at the 2019 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Stevens, Jr. accomplished the feat with a top jump of 51'-11.75" during the competition. He joins Eastern Michigan's Donald Scott as the only three-time champions in conference history, but Scott's titles came over a four-year span. A three-time All-American (two outdoor, one indoor) in the event, Stevens, Jr. closed his career by winning four of his final five MAC triple jump competitions, which includes a victory at the 2018 MAC Indoor Championships.
Trevor Detillion repeated as the discus throw champion with a top mark of 173'-6". The redshirt junior dominated his competition and recorded the five furthest throws of the day.
Following the meet, redshirt junior TJ Lawson was named the Most Outstanding Men's Field Performer of the meet. Lawson completed his third decathlon title in a row and also placed sixth in the long jump on Friday. He added a tie for eighth in the high jump (6'-4") on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes ended the meet with 124 points and a fourth-place finish.
Anthony Milliner earned All-MAC honors in the triple jump with a runner-up finish for the second year in a row. Milliner set a new PR on each of his final two attempts and his top mark of 50'-9.25" is the seventh-best in Kent State history.
Christian Champen and Mitchell Kubicki both scored in the pole vault. Champen cleared 16'-1.25" for fifth and Kubicki was right behind in sixth with a top height of 15'-7.25".
Jake Wickey had a top throw of 153'-0" for sixth in the discus.
Lawson, Jacob Mally and DJ Ohlson all cleared 6'-4" in the high jump. The two multis athletes tied for eighth, while Ohlson needed an extra attempt and took 10th.
The Flashes took third in the 4x100 meter relay to start the day's action on the track, as Brandon Wilson, Xavier Williams, Brandon Harris and Zavien Parker finished with a time of 40.87. Individually, Harris placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.70), Parker finished sixth in the 400-meter dash (48.11) and Wilson took eighth in the 100-meter dash (10.79).
The 4x400 relay team of Parker, Lawson, Devin Snowden and Kole Johnson recorded a time of 3:18.26 for fourth-place.
Justin Prack scored in both mid-distance races. Prack clocked a PR of 1:55.04 for seventh-place in the 800-meter run and took eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a time 4:00.88.
Kent State continues postseason competition when qualifying Golden Flashes travel to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida on May 23-25.
