EAST LANSING, Mich.- The No. 12 Kent State women's golf team is in first place after two days at the NCAA East Lansing Regional, shooting 3-over 284 on Tuesday at Forest Akers West Golf Course. Kent State is at 3-under 573 through 36 holes, one of just two teams under par, as Arizona sits at 2-under. The Flashes enter Wednesday's final round with a one-stroke lead over second place Arizona. The top six teams after 54 holes advance to the NCAA Championships later this month.
"It was an up and down round for us," said head coach Greg Robertson. "They hung in there and finished strong making quite a few birdies coming in. This was a long day with all the delays, but we were happy with the way they handled it. They kept a great attitude about it all day and came ready to play when it came time to tee it up. They've played some great golf these first days against some of the best teams in the country. We're looking forward to the final round getting to play head-to-head with two PAC-12 teams."
Junior Pimnipa Panthong Is tied for third at 2-under 142, five strokes back of the individual lead held by UCLA's Patty Tavatanakit (-7, 137). Panthong shot a 2-over 74 in the second round. She made back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 and finished with a birdie on the par-5 No. 17.
Senior Michaela Finn carded an even-par round and is tied for sixth (-1, 143). Finn birdied early on the No. 3 hole and finished the back-nine with three birdies, two of which were on the final two holes. Sophomore Chloe Salort is tied for 17th (+2, 146) after she fired a 2-over 74 score. Salort went 16 holes for par or better with birdies on the No. 5 and No. 8 holes.
Junior Karoline Stormo and freshman Thitapa Pakdeesettak are both tied for 19th (+3, 147). Stormo improved from her first round and shot a 1-under 71 for her second round. Stormo ended the day with three straight birdies after she eagles on the par-4 No. 11 hole. Pakdeesettak fired a 4-over 76 with two birdies.
The Flashes begin their final round on Wednesday at 10:04 a.m. ET off the first tee in the order of Pakdeesettak, Stormo, Salort, Finn, and Panthong. Kent State will be paired with Arizona and UCLA. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com
