Women’s Basketball Takes on Miami Saturday for Senior Day

Kent State women's basketball hosts Miami for Senior Day on Saturday. Seniors Sydney Brinlee, Megan Carter and Ali Poole will be honored prior to the 1 p.m. tip.
The Golden Flashes (14-10, 7-6 MAC) lost at first-place Central Michigan, 71-58, on Wednesday. Kent State's defense held Central Michigan to only six three-pointers, its third-lowest total of the season. Following a high-scoring opening period that finished tied 25-25, Kent State shot just 14-for-48 from the floor the rest of the night. Asiah Dingle led Kent State with 16 points, while Megan Carter and Lindsey Thall added 14 points apiece. Katie Shumate had a team-high seven rebounds.
Five Golden Flashes are scoring in double-figures for the season. Freshman Nila Blackford is posting team-leading averages of 13.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore Asiah Dingle (13.4 ppg) leads the Flashes in assists (3.3 apg) and steals (2.0 spg). Dingle is averaging 15.8 points over past five games following two-game absence. Freshman Katie Shumate (12.0 ppg) has displayed a versatile skill set and ranks in the top-two on the team in rebounding (6.7 rpg), steals (28) and blocked shots (22). Redshirt senior Megan Carter (11.5 ppg) has scored in double-digits in 11 of her past 16 contests against Division I opponents. Sophomore Lindsey Thall (10.9 ppg) is the MAC's top shot blocker (2.1 bpg) and ranks fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.374).
Scouting Miami
Miami (11-14, 4-9 MAC) was not in action on Wednesday and enters on a three-game skid. The RedHawks own a 4-9 record in true road games with their last victory coming at Bowling Green on February 1. The defense has had its difficulties during league play. Opponents are scoring 77.9 points per game and connecting on 47.8-percent from the floor.
All-MAC guard Lauren Dickerson is the sixth-leading scorer in the conference at 16.7 points per game and also the sixth highest-scoring active player (2,088 points) in NCAA Division I. The senior is tied for second in the MAC in three-pointers (65) and third in assists (4.6 apg). All-MAC forward Savannah Kluesner, who averages 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, is second in the league with 11 double-doubles and 1.8 blocked shots per game. Guard Peyton Scott adds 12.5 points per contest. The trio accounts for more than 61-percent of the RedHawks' scoring on the season.
