KENT, OHIO-The academic awards keep rolling in for the Kent State Golden Flashes as 15 members of the squad were named to the National Academic Team as recognized by Zag Field Hockey/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
In order to be eligible, the players must have achieved a 3.3 grade-point average or higher through the first-half of the 2019-2020 academic year. The Kent State University field hockey team was recognized as a Zag Field Hockey/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division-I National Academic Team Award recipient on Tuesday as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
It is the 18th consecutive year the Golden Flashes have earned the Award, achieving the distinction in every season since the honor was created in 2003.
"I am very proud of our athletes' hard work on and off the field this past fall," head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer said. "We place a strong emphasis on our academic success and we are grateful for the support our athletes receive to achieve this award for another year."
The honor recognizes programs with a minimum 3.0 team grade-point average during the fall semester of the 2019-20 academic year. The Golden Flashes boasted a Fall 2019 term of 3.45. Nine members of the team carried a 3.5 GPA or better and each earned a spot on the Mid-American Conference All-Academic Team.
This award adds to an already stellar 2019 season for the Golden Flashes. Kent State finished the year at 11-9 and won the Mid-American Conference regular season with a 5-1 conference mark. Five players earned All-MAC honors, with three of those players also making the All-Academic squad.
