
No. 22 Flashes Hit the Road for Games Against Appalachian State and No. 9 Liberty

The No. 22 Kent State field hockey team (10-4, 4-1 MAC) travels to North Carolina to take on Appalachian State on Friday, Oct. 22 before making their way to Virginia for a showdown with No. 9 Liberty on Sunday, Oct. 24. The game against the Mountaineers is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. while the game against the Flames is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Golden Flashes look to ride the momentum they have built over their season-high five game win streak to secure two more victories.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
Appalachian State finished the 2021 Spring season with an overall record of 7-9 and are 6-6 this Fall. They return three of their top five point scorers in Pauline Mangold (10), Grace Ball (7), and Friederike Stegen (7), but lost their top two point scorers at the end of the Spring season.
SCOUTING LIBERTY
Liberty ended the 2021 Spring season with a 13-3 overall record and are 12-2 this Fall. They return their top five point scorers in Jill Bolton (41), Daniella Rhodes (38), Charlotte Vaanhold (22), Bethany Dykema (20), and Jodie Conolly (16), all of whom finished with double digit points. Bolton, Rhodes, and Vaanhold also all had double digits goals with 14, 16, and 10, respectively, while Bolton and Dykema each had double digit assists with 13 and 12.
THE SERIES
Kent State defeated Appalachian State in their most previous battle by a score of 1-0, extending their all-time record against the Mountaineers to 9-0. The Flashes last played Liberty in 2018 falling to the then No. 19 Flames 1-2. Kent State is 0-2 all-time against Liberty.
