KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team (11-4, 5-1 MAC) came out victorious in an overtime scare against Appalachian State, securing a 2-1 win.
The Flashes took a 1-0 lead into halftime with fifth year Clara Rodriguez Seto finding the back of the net off a corner as time expired in the second quarter. Kent State would hold their goal advantage for the entire second half until the Mountaineers decided to give the Flashes a taste of their own medicine. Junior Pauline Mangold struck for Appalachian State as the clock stuck zero in the fourth to send the game to overtime.
Kent State would not get rattled. It took the Flashes just 2:38 in extra time to capitalize off another scoring opportunity with Rodriguez Seto scoring her second goal of the game.
Fifth year goalkeeper Azure Fernsler continued her strong performance for the Flashes recording five saves in the win.
Kent State will face off again on Sunday, Oct. 24 in a battle with No. 9 Liberty.
