LYNCHBURG, Virginia – The No. 22 Kent State field hockey team (11-5, 5-1 MAC) fell to No. 9 Liberty this afternoon by a score of 2-1 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Flames offense was on the attack all game. They would strike early at the 7:14 minute-mark to take a 1-0 lead and would continue firing shots for the remaining three quarters. Liberty finished with 30 total shots and 21 on goal. Fifth year goalkeeper Azure Fernsler recorded 17 saves on the day for Kent State, including stopping a penalty stroke, keeping the Flashes close. Her 17 saves are a season and career high. The Flames would ultimately take a 2-0 lead scoring again with just over 12 minutes left before senior Helena Cambra Soler found the back of the net for the Flashes to bring them back within a goal. There would not be enough time left for Kent State to find a second goal resulting in a 2-1 loss.
The Flashes will be back in action for their last regular season game on Saturday, Oct. 30 as they face off against Ball State. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
