CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State midfielder Clara Rodriguez Seto and goalkeeper Azure Fernsler received Mid-American Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Rodriguez Seto did it all for Kent State this past weekend in their games against Appalachian State and No. 9 Liberty. In the Flashes 2-1 overtime win against Appalachian State, she scored to put Kent State up 1-0 as well as scored the top shelf game winner in overtime. Rodriguez Seto also recorded a defensive save in both games and added an assist on the Flashes only goal against Liberty. She shared this award with Bellarmine forward Anna Crump.
Fernsler was also nothing short of amazing in Kent State's games against Appalachian State and No. 9 Liberty. Her play was instrumental in the Flashes 2-1 overtime win against the Mountaineers and was a major reason for why Kent State was able to stay close to Liberty. Fernsler recorded a season and career high in saves with 17 against the Flames, including stopping a penalty stroke, and only allowed three goals combined over both games while facing 28 total shots on goal. She finished with 22 saves on the weekend.
