KENT, Ohio โ The Kent State field hockey team (7-4, 3-1 MAC) defeated Longwood by a score of 3-2 on their first senior day at Murphy-Mellis Field.
Longwood would strike first taking a 1-0 lead before fifth year Clara Rodriguez Seto scored an equalizer halfway through the second. The Lancers would take the lead again after halftime and would hold the lead for the majority of the second half. This forced the Flashes to pull their goalie, fifth year Azure Fernsler, with just under three minutes left to get an extra attacker on the field. Shortly after, Kent State would earn a penalty corner and junior Maria Cambra Soler would capitalize on it tying the game 2-2. Fernsler would then be reinserted into the game. It took just one minute and 31 seconds for the Flashes to earn another scoring opportunity on a fast break and ultimately strike again to take a 3-2 lead and secure the victory.
Kent State led the Lancers in shots (18-9), shots on goal (11-6), and penalty corners (9-4).
The Flashes will face off again on Sunday, Oct. 10 against Indiana for their second senior day. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
