
Women’s Basketball Welcomes John Carroll for Kids Game Thursday

Kent State will host John Carroll for Kids Day presented by PSI on Thursday, Nov. 18, as students from local elementary schools will jam the M.A.C. Center for an 11 a.m. tip.
The Golden Flashes (2-0) held a Division I opponent to the fewest points since Dec. 21, 2018 in a 71-45 wire-to-wire victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) for the home opener on Sunday. Kent State held a 39-26 rebounding advantage and limited the Red Flash to only three second-chance points. Senior Lindsey Thall grabbed a team-high seven boards and senior Hannah Young added six rebounds. Junior Katie Shumate scored a game-high 21 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting and fueled the Flashes to a 13-point halftime lead by scoring 19 in the first 20 minutes of action. Junior Nila Blackford joined her in double-digits with 12 points.
Scouting John Carroll
The Blue Streaks (2-0) have showed why they were ranked 8th in the D3Hoops preseason poll, defeating Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon by an average of 14.5 points during their first two games. All-Americans Nicole Heffington and Olivia Nagy lead the way for John Carroll. Heffington is averaging 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds this season, while Nagy adds 15.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Kent State will open the tournament against 20th-ranked UCLA on Friday, Nov. 26 at 1:30 p.m. No. 14 Iowa State is also in the eight-team field and is a potential opponent for the final day of action on Sunday, Nov. 28.
