
Flashes Enjoy Strong Return Home at Doug Raymond National Qualifier

KENT, Ohio — The Kent State indoor track and field teams enjoyed a return to the Kent State Field House with eight event victories and severak top-three finishes on Saturday at the Doug Raymond National Qualifier.
Alexander Shields continued his strong freshman year picking up a win in the men's 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.00 moved him to fourth all-time on the school record list. Mi'Angel Daniels completed the sweep of the hurdle titles, winning the women's title in a time of 8.75.
Grace Tennant continued her domination of the women's shot put, winning with a throw of 52' 9.25". Gabby Bailey earned second (52' 7.25") to claim the top two spots for the Golden Flashes
Also on a run of wins is Jake Wickey who earned the men's weight throw title with a throw of 69' 5", his third straight win.
Leah Pasqualetti won her second straight women's pole vault competition, setting a new college best (13' 6.5") to move closer to the school record. She was joined in the top three by Sami Ice, who cleared 11' 9".
The men went 1-2 in the 60-meter dash, with Asa Hodrick winning (6.83) while Jaheim Jones took second (6.895) in a photo finish, edging out third place by just .004.
One of the more exciting finishes of the day came in the women's 4x400-meter relay. Akron built a decent lead through the first three legs, but Kent State pulled through to win after anchor Ruby Greenwood chased down the Akron athlete before managing to pass her on the home straight. This gave the team of Alexandria Verbancic, Daniels, Benja Duff, and Greenwood the win in a time of 3:55.45.
Gavin Schoeneman moved into the top ten in the men's high jump, finishing second with a height of 6' 11", good for eighth all-time.
Other top three finishes for the women include Sarena Choi, who finished third in both the long jump (18' 11.25") and the triple jump (38' 11.75"); Grace Luther, who took third in the weight throw (58' 11"), and Leah Lisle, who earned third in the 3,000-meter run (5:13.16).
Earning top three finishes for the men were Dejon Manning, who finished second in the 200-meter dash (21.83) Alex Stamper, who took second in the 3,000-meter run (8:39.19, )Drew Johnson, who took third in the 800-meter run (1:53.31), Justin Dwyer, earning second in the 400-meter dash (49.11), Korie Davis II. who finished third behind Dwyer in 49.39; and the 4x400m relay team of Dwyer, Jones, Jonathan Solomon, and Zavien Parker that finished second in 3:19.34.
Kent State will be back in action on Saturday as its hosts the Kent State Tune Up.
