New School Record Highlights Strong Showing at Kent State Tune-Up

KENT, Ohio - Freshman Leah Pasqualetti and senior Grace Tennant moved into the top-16 on the national performance list for the 2020-21 indoor season to highlight the end of regular season competition for the Kent State track and field team at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday.
Pasqualetti who broke Sam Tollerud's school record in the women's pole vault with a height of 14'-0.5", a mark that moves to the No. 14 spot in the country. The 2020 Track and Field News National High School Girls MVP cleared the record-setting bar on her third attempt.
Tennant, who won her sixth consecutive women's shot put competition dating back to the 2020 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, threw a new personal-best of 55' 2" on her second attempt of the day. The throw moves her to fourth all-time at Kent State and is the 10th-best throw in the country this season. Teammate Gabby Bailey finished second with a throw of 51'-11" to mark the first of several one-two finishes for the Golden Flashes.
Joshua Allen and Justin Prack finished one-two in the men's mile run. Allen led his teammate to the line with a time of 4:21.58, while Prack finished in 4:23:02.
Jacob Mally won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.22 after a strong battle with teammate Alexander Shields, who finished in 8.28 to continue his hot freshman season.
Kent State swept the top three spots in the men's pole vault. Kristian Kneffler and Lukas Van Der Watt both cleared 16'-3.25" with Kneffler getting the win on misses. Jacob Sommers finished third with a height of 14'-9.5".
Jake Wickey extended his dominance of the men's weight throw, winning by over 12 feet with a mark of 72'-3". The win is Wickey's fourth straight win after finishing second in the opening meet of the season.
Sarena Choi leaped to seventh all-time in the women's long jump, finishing with a mark of 19'-6.75". Choi recorded a new personal-best on each of her final two attempts and now ranks third in the MAC.
Ruby Greenwood picked up a pair of top-three finishes. Greenwod started her day with a personal-best of 56.78 to finish second in the women's 400-meter dash and later ran an indoor best 25.78 to finish third in the women's 200-meter dash.
Other top-three finishes for the men included Del'Mario Hairston, who took second in the long jump with a mark of 22'-9.25", Drew Johnson, who earned second in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:54.27, Gavin Schoeneman, who finished third in the high jump by clearing 6' 9.5", Dejon Manning, who tied his college best of 6.94 to finish third in the 60-meter dash, and Sam Michael, who ran the 3,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 8:57.30.
On the women's side, additional top-three finishes were earned by Tianna McCormick, who cleared 5'-3.75" in the high jump and finished third, and Grace Luther, who placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 55'-0".
Kent State will be back in action next weekend as it travels to Central Michigan for the two-day MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Competition is set to start at 10 a.m. Friday.
