
Men Place Third at MAC Indoor Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior Jacob Mally, junior Drew Johnson and freshman Alexander Shields earned All-MAC honors as the Kent State men's track and field team concluded competition at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday held in the Jack Skoog Indoor Track in Mount Pleasant.
Jacob Mally and Alexander Shields continued their strong performances, both finishing in the top-5 in all their heptathlon events on Saturday as well. Mally and Shields secured first place finishes in the 1000-meter run and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Mally crossed the finish line in the 1000-meter in a time of 2:49.96, while Shields finished the hurdles in 8.19. The duo finished second and third in the heptathlon, with Mally garnering 5170 total points and Shields 5153 total points.
Shields and Mally also took home second and sixth place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Shields secured a second-place finish with a time of 8.04, earning eight points for the Golden Flashes, while Mally finished sixth (8.23) for another point.
Drew Johnson completed the mile in a time of 4:10.15 to earn Kent State eight more points and secure second place.
Jaheim Jones and Asa Hodrick finished third in their respective events, each adding an additional six points to the Flashes overall score. Jones crossed the finish line in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.87 and Hodrick completed the 200-meter dash in 21.80. Hodrick joined Jones in the 60-meter dash finishing in fourth (6.91), earning four points. Dejon Manning also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.02), securing two more points.
The Kent State 4x400-meter relay team, composed of Asa Hodrick, Jaheim Jones, Quintin Cooks, and Zavien Parker took home a third-place finish (3:19.59).
Anthony Milliner jumped a distance of 48'-4" to take fourth place in the triple jump (4 points) and Del'Mario Hairston placed sixth (46'-10.75"), adding an additional point.
Four more Golden Flashes secured finishes that added to the overall score. Alex Stamper finished the 3,000-meter run in a personal best time of 8:28.90, adding two points. Trey Double and Quintin Cooks finished in fifth and sixth place in the 800-meter dash, respectively. Double crossed the finish line with a time of 1:56.54 (two points) and Cooks finished in 1:56.98 (one point). Gavin Schoeneman secured sixth place in the high jump clearing a height of 6'-4.75" and adding one point.
The Golden Flashes finished in third place overall, totaling 97 points.
Athletes who finish in the top-16 nationally in their respected events will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. from March 11-13.
