MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Kent State women's indoor track and field team concluded competition at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday with one athlete likely punching her ticket to nationals and a handful of Flashes scoring in their events.
Junior Gabby Bailey needed just one throw to claim the MAC shot put title, launching an indoor best 55' 3" on her first attempt to win and move fourth all-time in the record book. More importantly, the mark puts her comfortably in the top-16 in the nation and likely secures her spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Senior Grace Tennant placed third with a 51' 11.75" to continue her solid season and sophomore Meghan Daly picked up a point in eighth place with a 46' 11.5" throw.
Senior Sarena Choi needed all six attempts available to record her best mark of the day, jumping 40' 2.75" on her final attempt to finish third in the triple jump. Her mark is good for ninth all-time at Kent State.
Redshirt senior Mi'Angel Daniels improved on her preliminary time of 8.90 to finish fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.76 in the final.
Redshirt sophomore Tianna McCormick set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 5' 5" to finish sixth and earn three points for the team standings.
Athletes who finish in the top-16 nationally in their respected events will qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Fayetteville, Ark. from March 11-13.
