Field Hockey Begins 2021 Spring Season This Weekend

The Kent State field hockey team opens the 2021 Mid-American Conference spring season against Longwood on Friday, Mar. 12 and Saturday, Mar. 13 at 1 p.m. on Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field in Farmville.
The Golden Flashes first four games, and six of their first eight are on the road. They finish the season with four of their final six games at Murphy-Mellis Field.
FLASH FACTS
Head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer, in her second season with the Flashes, will have All-MAC First Team selections junior Helena Cambra Soler and senior Clara Rodriguez Seto return to the field. Rodriguez Seto led the Flashes in total goals (8) and in total points (24) last season. Kent State also returns their starting goalkeeper, Azure Fernsler, alongside four of their top five players in overall points.
The Flashes were picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll and received three first-place votes. Last season, Kent State finished 11-9 overall and 5-1 in MAC play, outscoring their MAC opponents 16 to 7 throughout the season. The Golden Flashes earned the No. 1 seed in the Conference Tournament before falling to Miami in the MAC Championship match.
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
The Lancers finished 2019 with a 9-10 overall record and were tabbed to finish third this season in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. They return their top three point scorers in Karly Harwood (20), Sophia Loscher (15) and Luna Lopez (10) who also led the team in goals scored with 10 goals, 7 goals, and 4 goals, respectively.
THE SERIES
Last season, the Golden Flashes fell to Longwood by a score of 2-1 at Murphy-Mellis Field. Kent State now holds a 6-1 all-time series advantage over Longwood.
