Kent State Comeback Falls Short in Loss at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – The Kent State soccer team (2-1-0) suffered its first loss of the season as they fell to the Miami Redhawks (2-1-0) 4-2 on Sunday.
The Golden Flashes fell behind early, with Miami opening the scoring 13 minutes in of a goal from Kristine DeMarco. Miami added a second eight minutes later, with Tyler Kilka scoring in the 21st minute to make it 2-0.
Kent State came to life after that, and Karly Hellstrom scored her first of the season off assists from Vital Kats and Dalaney Ranallo to make it 2-1 heading into half-time.
Yasmine Hall scored first after the break to make it 2-2 with 37 minutes to play. Kats also assisted on this goal, giving her two for the day and moving her into a tie with alumna Jenna Hellstrom for the most multiple-assist games in program history with five.
Miami went ahead again in the 67th minute and DeMarco capped off the scoring in the 85th minute to put the Redhawks up 4-2.
Sarah Melén finished with seven saves on 18 shots faced in the loss, the first of her career.
The Flashes will return to Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium on Thursday when they host the Ohio Bobcats in a 4 p.m. kick-off.
