Kent State Track and Field Kicks Off Outdoor Season at WVU’s Stan Romanoski Open

The Kent State track and field teams kick off the outdoor season by traveling to West Virginia University to compete in the Stan Romanoski Open on Saturday, March 20 inside the Mylan Park Track & Field Complex.
Competition begins with the men's hammer throw at 10 a.m. Javelin will be the last field event, and get underway with the men's competition at 4 p.m. The women's 5,000-meter run kicks off the running events at 2 p.m. The meet will come to a close on Saturday with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 6:55 p.m.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
The majority of Kent State's 12 student-athletes with meet entries will make their 2021 debut after not competing during the indoor season.
On the men's side, decathlon All-American TJ Lawson will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, high jump and discus throw. Scott Benco and Bradley Heck will also be competing for the first time this year in the javelin throw.
Rounding out the men competing are Lukas Van Der Watt and Kristian Kneffler in the pole vault, as well as Brad Jones in the high jump.
On the women's side, four Golden Flashes will throw javelin. Vanessa Vodan, the 2018 MAC champion in the event, and 2019 NCAA East Preliminary Round qualifier Grace Tennant lead the way. Grace Frye and Morgan White will make their college javelin throw debuts.
Ally Thompson and Sami Ice will represent Kent State in the pole vault.

Kent State will be back in action on Friday, April 2 at the Northeast Ohio Quad, hosted by Youngstown State.
