KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's lacrosse team (0-2) will make history tomorrow afternoon at Dix Stadium as the team hosts Robert Morris (3-0) in the first ever Mid-American Conference women's lacrosse contest.
Joining the MAC
The MAC announced the addition of women's lacrosse in November of 2019 and increases the conference's sponsored championships to 24. Kent State is joined by fellow MAC members Akron and Central Michigan. They are joined by three affiliate members: Robert Morris, Detroit Mercy and Youngstown State. Eastern Michigan will join the conference prior to the 2021-22 academic year.
Kent State was picked to finish third in the MAC according to the preseason coaches' poll. Entering their third season as a program, the Flashes return every single point scorer from the 2020 season.
Last Time Out
The Flashes lost their second straight home game to begin the 2021 season, falling at the hands of Marquette, 19-8.
Madison Rapier led Kent State, scoring three goals including two free position goals. It was Rapier's third straight multi-goal game dating back to last season.
Through two games, five Golden Flashes have scored in both games. Megan Kozar netted two goals against the Golden Eagles, bringing her career total to 40 goals – good for second in program history. Kent State's all-time goal leader, Abby Jones, also recorded a goal against Marquette. With the goal, Jones has recorded at least one point in 22 of her 25 career starts.
Kenzie Sklar and Meghan Cawood each recorded a goal to add to their season total.
Scouting Robert Morris
The Golden Flashes and Colonials have met twice with RMU winning both matchups. In the last matchup between the two teams, Abby Jones scored three goals and added an assist in the loss.
Robert Morris stayed perfect on the season with a 12-9 victory over Gardner-Webb on Sunday. They also have wins over Liberty and Fresno State.
RMU is led by Mackenzie Gandy – the program's all-time leader in points – who scored six goals against the Runnin' Bulldogs. She has totaled 180 career points and posted back-to-back six goal games for the Colonials. Gandy needs just 12 goals and 29 assists to set the program record in both categories.
Robert Morris goalkeeper, Katelyn Miller, has started a remarkable streak of 62 straight games. She has the best goals against average (10.18) in program history and has recorded the most wins by an RMU goalkeeper.
