BOWLING GREEN, OHIO- The Golden Flashes powered their way to a double header sweep of Bowling Green on Saturday, winning 10-6 and 13-4.
GAME ONE Kent State 10 Bowling Green 4
Kent State picked up right where they left off after Friday's 14 run outburst. Cam Touchette highlighted a four-run first with his first homer of the year, a three-run shot to left field. Kent State grew the lead to 6-0 with single tallies in the second and third. Michael Turner knocked home Mack Timbrook with a sacrifice fly in the second and Justin Kirby knocked home Justin Miknis with a base hit.
Bowling Green got back into the game with a four-run third off Collin Romel, stringing together four hits in the inning. Kent State took the momentum right back in the fourth with Nick Elsen powering a three-run home run over the center field wall to make it 9-4. Bowling Green answered again with a two-run double, knocking Romel from the game. Jack Kartsonas came in and was lights out in relief. The righty went the final three and two-thirds and allowed just one hit and striking out four and not walking a batter. The Flashes added an insurance run in the fifth on a Ben Carew sac fly as the Flashes took game one, 10-4.
GAME TWO Kent State 13 Bowling Green 4
Kent State erupted in game two for 10 runs in the second inning, marking the first time since March 18th of 2017 at Western Carolina that they've hung double digits up in an inning. The first four runs of the inning were scored on an error, two walks and a hit batter. After a pitching change, Nick Elsen socked a grand slam over the center field wall to make it 8-0. Justin Kirby and Michael McNamara each added solo homers to put a 10-spot up in the second.
Richie Dell got the start for the Golden Flashes and aside from a solo homer in the third, cruised through the first three innings. He was touched for three runs in the fourth as the Falcons used a double, passed ball, solo homer and single to plate the three runs and make it 10-4.
Ben Carew continued his ridiculous weekend with a solo homer in the fifth to make it 11-4 and the Flashes tacked on two more in the seventh. Michael Turner doubled home Carew and later scored on an error to wrap up the game two scoring.
Peyton Deats went the final three innings in relief. The lefty didn't allow a hit and walked two while striking out four.
The wins move Kent State to 11-11 on the season and 4-3 in MAC play. Bowling Green now sits at 8-13 overall and 6-5 in conference play. The Golden Flashes will go for the sweep tomorrow, first pitch is at 1:05 and the game can be seen on the WBGU You Tube channel.
