
Flashes Track and Field Travels to Tennessee Relays

The Kent State track and field team will have 57 student-athletes in action this weekend as the Golden Flashes compete at the Tennessee Relays. The three-day meet at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium gets started Thursday, April 8 and concludes Saturday, April 10.
The men's decathlon and women's heptathlon highlight the meet's opening day on Thursday, which the multis scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Hammer throw will be the lone field, beginning with the women's competition at 4 p.m. The only running event will be the 10,000-meter run, with the men's race scheduled for 9 p.m. and the women's race to follow at 9:30 p.m.
The multis will resume at 11 a.m. on Friday. The women's long jump will get field events started at 2 p.m. and a full schedule of individual running events on the track will start with the men's 110-meter hurdles at 2:45 p.m.
Saturday's final day of competition is scheduled to begin with the women's discus throw and men's pole vault at 11 a.m. Relay races will start at 1 p.m.
PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State has eight student-athletes traveling to the Tennessee Relays who rank in the top three in the Mid-American Conference in their respective events.
Highlighting those athletes is Grace Tennant, who ranks first in shot put (52'-5.25") and women's javelin (148'-2"). Additionally, Tennant ranks second in the discus throw (165'-1"). She is entered to compete in all three events this weekend. Scott Benco holds the top spot in the men's javelin with a throw of 197'-5". Jake Wickey sits second in weight throw with a personal-best mark of 214'-8".
The Golden Flashes' pole vault group had a strong performance at last week's Northeast Ohio Quad. On the women's side, Leah Pasqualetti is tied for the top spot in the with a height of 13'-9.25", which is second on Kent State's all-time outdoor performance list. Kristian Kneffler and Lukas Van Der Watt are tied for second on the men's side. Both student-athletes have a season-best clearance of 16'-6.75".
Kent State owns the No. 3 spot in both the men's and women's high jump. Gavin Schoeneman has a top height of 6'-8" and Lillie Franks has a top height of 5'-6".
TJ Lawson, Jacob Mally and Alexander Shields are entered in the men's decathlon. Lawson is a two-time decathlon winner at the Tennessee Relays and scored a Kent State record 7,876 points at the meet in 2019.
Several Flashes will be in action for the first time during the outdoor season after the running and horizontal jumping events were moved indoors at last Friday's Northeast Ohio Quad. Asa Hodrick (100m, 200m), Drew Johnson (1500m), Jaheim Jones (100m, 200m), Anthony Milliner (triple jump), Sarena Choi (long jump, triple jump) and Mi'Angel Daniels (200m, 100H) headline those athletes.
