KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kent State outdoor track and field team returned to action on Thursday as they competed on day one of the Tennessee Relays in Knoxville.
Day one of the meet primarily focused on the multis, and the Golden Flashes were represented in the men's decathlon by TJ Lawson and Jacob Mally. Lawson was arguably the most consistent performer on Thursday, finishing second in three of five events and third in one to take the overall lead into day two with 3979, 26 points ahead of the second place competitor. Mally sits in ninth place with 3454 points, 53 points behind eighth place.
The final of the men's hammer throw was head Thursday evening, and Jake Wickey earned a fourth place finish with a throw of 213' 7". The mark was about a foot off his best which was set last week at the Northeast Ohio Quad, but the finish was solid against a competitive field.
In the women's weight throw, Marissa Henley moved into a tie for tenth on the Kent State performance list with a throw of 175' 2".
Competition will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles. The final event of the day, the women's 5,000-meter run, will start at 8:05 p.m.
