
Josh Gilkison Posts Runner-Up Finish at Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Graduate student Josh Gilkison finished second individually and the Kent State men's golf team placed fourth following the final round of the Gopher Invitational.
Gilkison carded a 5-under, 66 on Monday and shot 8-under, 205 for the tournament, missing out on his first collegiate victory by two strokes. He entered the day tied for sixth on the leaderboard and was 1-over for the round through eight before making a surge over the next four holes. After posting birdies on holes 9-11, Gilkison recorded an albatross on the par-5, 565-yard No. 12 to move into the lead. He was surpassed by Kansas' Luke Kluver despite pars on each of the final six holes.
The Golden Flashes concluded the tournament with a 3-under, 849 and had three top-20 finishers. Junior Cade Breitenstine carded a 72 on Monday and finished in a tie for 13th overall with a 2-under, 211. Senior Julien Paltrinieri was two strokes behind with an even-par, 213 after also shooting a 72 in the final round to tie for 18th.
Freshman Bryce Reed concluded his first collegiate tournament with a 74 and tied for 45th (+9, 222). Junior Jack Doody carded an 81 on Monday to finish in a tie for 69th (+19, 232)
The Flashes will return to action Sept. 27-28 at the Windon Memorial, which will be hosted by Northwestern and played at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois.
