ANN ARBOR, Mi. – No. 23 Kent State field hockey (5-4, 1-1 MAC) battled the top ranked team in the country in Michigan but conceded a late goal to fall to the Wolverines 2-1.
After a first half that saw no goals scored, Michigan struck off a penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead. The Wolverines lead would not last for long as sophomore Katie Wuerstle scored just four minutes later for the Flashes off a penalty corner of their own. Fifth year Ashley Bonetz was credited with the assist. The third quarter would end with the score tied 1-1.
Both teams continued to battle in the fourth, but Michigan's Sofia Southam would score her second goal of the game to regain the lead for the Wolverines. There would not be enough time left for Kent State to even the score again, ultimately falling by a score of 2-1.
The Flashes will travel next to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Bellarmine on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
