Kent State falls to No. 4 Penn State

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey team (6-7) fell 3-0 against No. 4 Penn State (13-2) Sunday afternoon at Murphy-Mellis Field.
The Nittany Lions came out strong and earned two penalty corners within one minute of the first quarter. Two minutes later, the Nittany Lions scored off a backhand shot from Sophia Gladieux. The Golden Flashes goalkeeper, Cecile van Eijck made six saves in the quarter. Going into the second quarter, Penn State scored off a penalty corner. The Flashes held Penn State to the 2-0 lead in the third quarter. With 10 minutes remaining in the final quarter, the Nittany Lions earned a penalty corner and scored from the top of the circle.
Penn State led in shots (21-7), shots on goal (13-5), and penalty corners (6-4). Cecile van Eijck made 10 saves and is ranked No. 2 in the MAC for saves per game.
The Golden Flashes travels to Virginia to take on Longwood on Friday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. and then University of Virginia on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m.
