Wilmington, NC... The Kent State men's golf team battled but slid a spot on Sunday to close out the Williams Cup with a seventh-place finish.
"This was an extremely demanding course in demanding conditions but this is definitely a result we can learn from," KSU head coach Jon Mills said. "We have to do a better job of limiting our mistakes in conditions like these."
The Flashes were led by Chris Vandette, who kept his scores steady in the mid-70s to take a 14th-place finish.
Vandette was followed by Jordan Gilkison and Ben MacLean who each carded one outstanding round through the weekend to finish inside the top 25.
While Kent State showed glimpses of greatness throughout the event, the Flashes will look for more consistency in the spring, after finishing in the bottom half of their last two fall events.
"When a mistake is made, we need to grind it out and preserve a bogey worst case," Mills said. "We didn't do a good job of that this week."
The Fall semester was highlighted by back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Gopher Invitational and Windon Memorial, with three different Flashes (Chris Vandette, Jordan Gilkison and Ben MacLean) posting season-high fourth place finishes before autumn's end.
The Flashes will take the next four months to rest and regroup before resuming their season at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Alabama on February 13th.
