
Flashes Fall to Broncos, 3-1

KENT, Ohio โ Kent State only managed to slow down the high-powered offense of visiting Western Michigan for one set during a 3-1 (15-25, 27-25, 13-25, 19-25) setback Saturday afternoon inside of the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes (13-11, 4-9 MAC) totaled four blocks in the second set as the Broncos committed nine attack errors and posted a .100 hitting percentage. WMU had just six swinging miscues combined over the other three sets, however, and hit at a .306 clip overall.
Senior Morgan Copley had another strong performance with a season-high 14 kills to lead the attack. Freshman Mia Soerensen was an efficient scorer from the right side with 13 kills and only one error on 22 attempts for a .545 hitting percentage and also added four blocks. Graduate student Alex Haffner recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs.
Graduate student Erin Gardner led all players with 26 digs, the most she has tallied in a four-setter this season. Junior Bryn Roberts added a season-best 15 digs. Graduate student Danie Tyson contributed on five of the team's eight blocks.
How it Happenedโฆ
ย ย ย Set 1: Western Michigan took a commanding 21-10 lead before making its first attack error of the night. Danie Tyson took it upon herself to put a blemish on the Broncos' stat sheet with a solo stuff and then teamed with Mia Soerensen for a block on the ensuing point. The duo got Kent State within 23-15 by combining for blocks on back-to-back points, but the Broncos delivered two kills right after to close it out.
ย ย ย Set 2: The Flashes took their largest lead of the night, 12-7, on a block by Morgan Copley and Lana Strejcek. WMU fought back to even the score, but Danie Tyson provided a kill for a 24-22 lead. After three unsuccessful set-point opportunities, Kent State was able to take the set, 27-25, after the Broncos' setter short armed a dump attempt into the net.
ย ย ย Set 3: It was all Western Michigan after the first six points. The Broncos posted kills on nine of their first nine swings in the set and went on to total 18 kills and a .447 hitting percentage.
ย ย ย Set 4: Alex Haffner came out aggressive with three early kills to help Kent State take a 4-0 lead. A seven-point surge put WMU ahead 11-7. The Flashes battled back to get within 17-15, but the Broncos took the next four points to pull away.

Kent State travels to Ball State for the final road weekend series of the season. The Golden Flashes and Cardinals will battle on Thursday, Nov. 3 and Friday, Nov. 4.
