Kent State Heads to Duquesne for Wednesday Women’s Hoops Contest

Kent State visits Duquesne on Wednesday for its final road game of the non-conference schedule. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
The Golden Flashes (5-2) earned a 64-49 wire-to-wire victory over St. Bonaventure on Sunday and have not trailed for the past 100 minutes of game action. Freshman Corynne Hauser led the way with a career-high 18 points and senior Katie Shumate added 15. Kent State totaled a season-high 10 steals in the contest, led by three from graduate student Abby Ogle and two each by Hauser and Shumate.
During the current four-game win streak, the Flashes are limiting opponents to 56.5 points per game on 33.9% shotting from the field. Aggressive drives to the basket have resulted in more free throws made (66) than their opponents have attempted (52) during the streak.
Forward Lindsey Thall leads the Flashes at 12.4 points per game and a team-best 13 three-pointers. The Flashes' all-time leader with 231 triples, Thall ranks 19th among active NCAA Division I players, while ranking 11th in career blocks (178). Guard Katie Shumate adds 12.3 points per game and became the 24th player in program history to score 1,000 points earlier this season. Guard Hannah Young pulls down a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game.
Guard Corynne Hauser (8.0 ppg) and forward Bridget Dunn (2.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg) lead a strong bench unit that is scoring 20.0 points per contest.
Scouting Duquesne
The Dukes (6-2) dominated the middle 20 minutes in a 66-55 win over Delaware on Sunday. After scoring more than 75 points over its first six games, Duquesne averaged just 62.5 points in the past two contests. The Dukes rank 25th in the country with 8.8 three-point field goals per game.
Guard Megan McConnell is the national leader with two triple-doubles. McConnell ranks in the top-25 in the country with averages of 10.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.4 steals per game while scoring 11.1 points per contest. Guard Tess Myers is the top scorer at 13.4 points per game and has drained a team-best 24 three-pointers. Forward Ayanna Townsend (12.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and center Precious Johnson (11.4 ppg, 6.9 rpg) provide solid production in the frontcourt.
