KENT, Ohio - On Saturday, the Kent State lacrosse team traveled to Moon Township, Pennsylvania to take on Robert Morris in a Mid-American Conference matchup. But the Colonials came out on top in this one, defeating the Golden Flashes, 15-6.
For Robert Morris, Julia Koterwas led the team in goals with four. One of those goals came less than a minute into the game, giving the Colonials the early advantage. That was the first of seven straight goals that Robert Morris scored to open the game. But with 5:55 to go in the the first half, the Flashes finally got on the board, thanks to a goal by sophomore Jackie Wolford, her 34th of the season.
Kent State would go on to score the next two goals as well, with junior Jordan Zablo scoring at 4:33 and Wolford scoring again at 4:07. Two of the three goals were assisted by junior Kenzie Sklar.
In the second half, junior Morgan Kubicki would go on to score for the Flashes, along with seniors Abby Jones and Megan Kozar (Kubicki would get an assist as well). But Robert Morris would find a way to extend their lead, and Kent State wasn't able to mount a comeback against the first place Colonials.
Robert Morris goalie Jamie Keller got 14 saves in the win, while Kent State sophomore Taylor Monturo picked up 17 saves in the loss. Abby Jones and freshman Sidney Dering also had five draw controls each for the Flashes.
Kent State will now head back home for their next game next Saturday, when they host Central Michigan at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
