
Kent State Men Ready for MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The Kent State men's track and field team will battle for the conference title, traveling to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan to compete at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, Thursday May 12 through Saturday, May 14.
The three-day competition begins Thursday at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw. The decathlon starts at 12 p.m. and running trials are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the 400-meter hurdles.
Friday's action begins with the decathlon at 11 a.m. Field events will get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the shot put. Running trials will begin at 3:10 p.m. with the 110-meter hurdles.
Action on Championship Saturday starts with the discus at 10 a.m. Running events will begin with the 4x100 relay at 1 p.m. and conclude at 4:45 p.m. with the 4x400 relay.
SCORING FORMAT
The top six competitors in each event will score points for their team with a 10-8-6-4-2-1 scale.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State has 30 student-athletes entered to compete, including 11 that rank in the top 3 in the MAC in their respective events.
Scott Benco is the top-ranked athlete in the javelin throw and is joined by Bradley Heck, who ranks third. Jake Wickey's personal-best mark gives him the top ranking in the hammer throw. Nolan Landis and Jeff Neuhaus round out the Golden Flashes' throwers in the top 3, ranking second and third, respectively, in the discus.
Jacob Mally and Alexander Shields own the top two scores in the decathlon this year. Shields is ranked third in the 110-meter hurdles.
Lukas Van Der Watt ranks second in the pole vault, while Asa Hodrick (200m), Alexandre Malanda (triple jump) and Nick Stricklen (5,000m) all entered ranked third in their events. Anthony Milliner will attempt to repeat as triple jump champion.
In relay races, Kent State ranks first in the 4x100 and second in the 4x400.
NEXT UP FOR KENT STATE
Golden Flashes who rank in the top-48 in the region will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Bloomington, Indiana from May 25-28.
