Flashes Host WMU Saturday for Legacy Game

The Kent State women's basketball program will welcome former Golden Flashes back to the M.A.C. Center on Saturday as it hosts Western Michigan at 2 p.m. for the Legacy Game.
The Golden Flashes (12-6, 4-3 MAC) are No. 23 in the Mid-Major Top 25 and are coming off their largest road victory against a Mid-American Conference opponent since March 1, 2017, on Wednesday, an 82-61 win over Northern Illinois. Kent State made its first six shots from three-point range and led by double-figures most of the night. Graduate student Lindsey Thall turned in the highest scoring performance by a Flash this season with 26 points. Junior Casey Santoro and senior Clare Kelly finished with 13 points each and freshman Corynne Hauser scored 12 points.
Kent State's defense has been among the best in the MAC this season. The Flashes rank second in goal percentage defense (.382) and scoring defense (61.8 ppg). Kent State is 12-1 when holding opponents to fewer than 70 points.
Forward Lindsey Thall is the top scorer at 12.1 points per game and has also totaled team-best marks of 32 three-pointers and 15 blocked shots. Thall is Kent State's all-time leader with 250 triples, which ranks 21st among active NCAA Division I players, and ranks 11th among active players in career blocks (187). Guard Corynne Hauser (10.2 ppg) is averaging a team-best 13.4 points per game during conference play. Guard Katie Shumate adds 9.8 points per game and pulls down a team-high 5.4 rebounds per contest.
Guards Clare Kelly (7.6 ppg) and Dionna Gray (4.1 ppg) and forward Bridget Dunn (4.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg) lead a strong bench unit that is scoring 25.4 points per contest.
Scouting Western Michigan
The Broncos (9-9, 4-3 MAC) had a four-game winning streak ended on Wednesday with a 63-51 setback against Eastern Michigan. Western Michigan is allowing the fewest points per game (64.7) in the MAC during conference play.
Guard Lauren Ross is the nation's eighth leading scorer at 21.8 points per game but did not play during Wednesday's loss. Forward Taylor Williams adds 14.9 points per game and a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game, which puts her third in the conference. Guard Hannah Spitzley (7.5 ppg) has scored double-figures in four of the last five games.
