
Baidy Ba Wins Men’s 8K Orange Race at Pre-Nationals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Kent State junior Baidy Ba raced to victory in the men's Orange 8K on a rainy morning Saturday at the XC23 Pre-Nationals meet.
Ba made his move on the downhill with about 500 meters remaining, surging ahead of leader Nick Karayianis from host Virginia to win his second career race in a Golden Flashes uniform in 24:06.7, which was 8.1 seconds ahead of Karayianis.
Senior Ethan Yost and graduate student Trey Double were the next Golden Flashes to cross the finish line on the men's side. Yost posted a time of 24:56.8 to place 30th and Double clocked an 8K personal-best of 25:28.4 to place 59th.
Junior Sydney Gallagher led the Flashes in the women's Orange 6K race and placed 100th in 22:42.7. Freshman Ella McCollom (22:58.1) and junior Lany Straub (22:58.3) were close behind to finish 113th and 114th, respectively.
Kent State will conclude regular season action at the EMU Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 20.
