Flashes Travel to Athens in Search of 29th MAC Title

Athens, ALA… The Kent State men's golf team will look to continue their storied run of conference dominance when they make the trek to a brand new venue for this year's Mid-American Conference Championship.
The Flashes have won each of the last six MAC titles including 12 of the last 13, 17/22 since the turn of the century, and 28 overall.
"The guys are excited and we're ready to get started," KSU head coach Jon Mills said. "We got to see the course for the first time on Saturday and we're looking forward to seeing what we've got on Sunday."
For the first time ever, Canebreak Golf Club will be the host site for this year's MAC Championship, which should provide a unique challenge to all of this year's participants, who will need to settle in as quickly as possible.
"This course is completely new to everyone so we're all in the same boat, there's some comfort in that," Mills said. "You have one day to try to feel the course out and get use to everything from the lyes to the grasses."
There's no doubt that the Flashes have been playing their best golf down the stretch, recording the best results of their spring season at their last two events, taking third at the Boilermaker Invitational, and second at the Robert Kepler Invitational last week.
"We have a lot of strengths as a team but throughout the fall and even early this spring we were a little inconsistent," he said. "That changed for us down the stretch, we started to get more consistent play and the results followed. We're trending in the right direction and we feel like anyone in our lineup can win any event individually in any given week."
In order to maintain that recent form, Kent State will need to continue putting their focus within as they get set to face yet another strong field of conference challengers.
"It's never easy to win one of these but you have to understand what you can control and what you can't control," Mills said. "We can't control what other teams shoot so there's no point in wasting energy focusing on that. We play an individual sport in a team atmosphere and we support each other but you have to stay within yourself."
This year's MAC Championship will begin on Sunday, April 30th with pairings and tee times to be announced later today.
