
Spears’ PR Leads Kent State Women on Final Day at MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

AKRON, Ohio – Kent State finished seventh at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as competition concluded on Saturday at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex. The Golden Flashes totaled 67 points over the three-day meet.
Karsyn Spears ran a personal-best 2:10.26 finish second in the 800-meter run to earn All-MAC Second Team accolades.
The high jump was the highest-scoring event of the day as Kent State secured 11 points. Lillie Franks matched her PR by clearing the bar at 5'-8" for third place. Svenia De Coninck also recorded a height of 5'-8" and finished fourth.
Alexandria Verbancic took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.08. Verbancic started the day by running the final leg of the 4x100-meter relay, which the Flashes finished eighth in 47.30. Andrea Filote, Rakyia Addo and Gabrielle Hawkins joined her in the relay.
Anna Jones rounded out Saturday's scoring with an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run. Jones crossed the finish line in 4:34.52.
Matilde Carboncini earned Freshman Field Performer of the Year honors for her performance at the meet. Carboncini totaled nine points with a fourth-place showing in the heptathlon and a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw. She posted new PRs in the heptathlon, 100-meter hurdles and javelin.
The Flashes will continue postseason competition with qualifying student-athletes in action at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida from May 24-27.
