The Kent State track and field program begins competition at the 2023 NCAA East First Round on Wednesday evening. The four-day meet will take place May 24-27 at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
The top 12 performers in each event will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
The Golden Flashes will have nine student-athletes in action. Sprinter Asa Hodrick will compete in both the men's 100-meter dash and men's 200-meter dash while also being part of the men's 4x400-meter relay team. Korie Davis II is the other member of that relay squad who qualified for individual competition and will run the men's 400-meter dash. Quintin Cooks, Jonathan Solomon and Kyle Sommer are also part of Kent State's relay entry.
Baidy Ba and Alexander Shields round out the Flashes' entries on the track. Ba will race in the 1,500-meter run and Shields is set to compete in the men's 110-meter hurdles for the second year in a row.
Kent State's flight crew will be represented by Alexandre Malanda and Svenia De Coninck. Malanda will compete in the men's triple jump and De Coninck in the women's high jump.
