Flashes fall to Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Kent State field hockey team (1-5) fell 2-1 to Bucknell (3-3) this afternoon.
In a back and forth battle for the offensive advantage, the Golden Flashes were able to secure two consecutive corners with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. The Bison responded quickly after being awarded a corner. With a shot from the top of the circle, Cecile van Eijck made the save plus saving the rebound shot shortly after. The quarter ended 0-0.
Early in the second quarter, Kent State picked up the momentum when they took the lead 1-0. Converting a penalty corner, Emma Rolston inserted the pass and then scored off an assist by Patricia Strunk. Within three minutes, the Bison secured three more corners but came up empty at the half.
Before the end of the third quarter, Bucknell was able to secure a corner. Cecile van Eijck made the save to hold off the Bison and the quarter ended 1-0.
Bucknell tied the score 1-1 after converting a penalty corner with only five minutes remaining in regulation. In a quick change of possession, the Bison scored again to take the lead 2-1. Flashes led in saves 10-4, while Bucknell led in shots on goal (12-5) and corners (13-4).
Up next, Kent State travels to Central Michigan for the Mid-American Conference opener on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3 p.m.
