Flashes Shutout Victory in MAC Opener

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Kent State field hockey team (2-5) won 8-0 against Central Michigan (1-5) this afternoon.
The Golden Flashes found their momentum early in the first quarter when Jenna McCrudden converted a penalty corner and took the lead 1-0. Shortly after, Kent State earned another corner where Iris Bekker tipped in a shot and scored from an assist by Alex Sacker.
In the second quarter, Emma Seger scored her first career goal to bring the lead 3-0. For the Flashes fifth corner of the game, Maybritt Duwel scored with eight minutes left in the quarter. Before the half, Flashes led 9-0 in shots.
Emma Rolston brought the team up 5-0 when she scored three minutes into the third quarter. Goalkeeper Allison Wood entered the game to make her career debut.
Going into the fourth quarter, Eva Usoz scored with an assist by Duwel. Duwel then scored her second goal of the game and took the Kent State lead 7-0 from an assist by McCrudden. With two minutes remaining, Rolston recorded her second goal of the game and Naomi Kagna made her first career assist.
In an 8-0 victory over the Chippewas, the Flashes led in shots on goals (11-0) and tied in corners (5-5).
Up next, Kent State hosts No. 8 Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m.
