Kedronova Shines Out West, Takes Crown in Flashes Debut

ALBUQUERQUE, NM...In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Veronika Kedronova earned an impressive tournament win at the Dick McGuire Invitational, tying for first among the 93 player field.
Kedronova dominated the weekend, finishing at nine under and shooting under par all three rounds of the invitational.
The Czech Republic native got off to scorching start on Monday morning, shooting a round best 66. Kedronova sank 15 birdies through the two days, which tied for the most at the tournament.
"Winning your first college event is an amazing accomplishment," said head coach Casey VanDamme. "She hit the ball very well and made some clutch up and downs."
The victory comes after Kedronova earned the Czech International Amateur Championship at the beginning of August.
As a team, Kent State took 7th out of 16 clubs, finishing at 13 over par.
Last year's freshman sensation Leon Takagi began her sophomore season with another top 20 finish, tying for 17th at one over par.
Noramol Nuchsila was the final golfer for the Flashes to end up in the top 50, tying for 46th with a weekend best round of 73.
The Flashes hope to improve on their team performance heading into the next tournament.
"Our team showed some great things this week and also had some bad stretches of holes," said VanDamme. "We need to clean up some controllable aspects of the game prior to the next event."
Kent State returns to action this Sunday as they head to the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University.
