Flashes fall in double overtime to the Aggies

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State field hockey team (1-3) lost in double overtime, 5-4, to UC Davis (1-4) this afternoon.
Within the first 10 minutes of quarter one, the Aggies took the lead 2-0. Shortly after, the Flashes converted a penalty corner and Alex Sacker put Kent State on the board with assists from Victoria Tinghitella and Emma Rolston. At the end of the quarter, the Flashes led in corners 4-0.
In the second quarter, Eva Usoz scored to tie the game 2-2. Freshman Maybritt Duwel scored her first career goal to give Kent State the lead 3-2. Almost one minute later, Usoz secured her second goal of the game off a penalty corner.
About eight minutes into the third quarter, UC Davis was given a penalty stroke after a corner. The Aggies scored and brought the game 4-3. One minute later, goalkeeper Cecile van Eijck blocked the second penalty stroke and held UC Davis at three.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Flashes were leading in shots 19-16. With four minutes remaining in regulation, UC Davis pulled the goalkeeper and added an extra player. The Aggies were successful in tying the score 4-4 and moved into overtime.
In the first overtime, the score remained 4-4 with both teams recording one shot on goal each. In the second overtime UC Davis found the back of the cage, two minutes in, by converting a penalty corner.
Up next, Kent State will travel to Pennsylvania to take on Penn State on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. and Bucknell on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m.
